The standard of tups being shown was one of the best , the line up was just outstanding making the judge Ben McSporran’s task a very difficult one .
In the category “ Best Pen “ the first prize went to Alan & Hazel Smith’s Crumhaughhill pen of 40 outstanding rams .
In the main show it was Glen Wilson’s Hawthornside , Hawick tup that took the champion position just ahead of the double 2nd & 3rd winning pair from Muircleugh Partners Muircleugh , Lauder .
Best Pen winner produced the 4th prize place from A & H Smith Crumhaughhill, Hawick .

Records fell all day in Ring 18 when Bob & Becca Rennie’s annual consignment of 28 Texel Shearlings from Attonburn Kelso won both the best pen and the show prior to the sale . The champion sold for £6,000 ( an increase of £800 on his previous 2022 Ring 18 record ) with their 28 averaging an incredible £1882 . This amazing average was the highest of any Texel Ring both registered & unregistered for a consignment of over 16 Rams a brilliant achievement.

Two other large consignments also hitting the high spots were A & HC Smith Crumhaughhill with their entry of 25 averaging a very strong £1134 top price £1,900 .
 
Also CD Scott Falla’s annual pen of 50 also selling to £1,900 to average £959

With no fewer than 13 flocks breaking the £1,000 barrier, trade could only be described as being on fire .
Records fell again as Rennie Livestock Attonburn sold their show champion x £5,200 to James Herdman Edlingham Newtown .
It was Glen Wilson Hawthornside next x £2,600 followed closely by James Anderson Headshaw L x £2,500 and again it was local Hawick Texel breeder G & W Young Flex x £2,200 . The Muircleugh Partnership were next at £2,000 with 2 stalwarts Sharplaw Farms Hownam & Graham Cakebread Commonside both selling x £1,900 .

Border Livestock Exchange sold 308 Texel Shearling Rams in Ring 18 to average £811 ( increase of £211 on 2019 ) to a top of £2,100 .

This was for an outstanding ram from Mr Glen Wilson, Hawthornside Farm , Hawick .

Trade was fast from lot 1 from Hawthornside to the final lot from Lynn Gray Unthank who had a top of £1,300 and a very respectable £880 average .

The overall quality of naturally brought out rams was clearly reflected with over 30 rams passing the £1,000 mark .
Regular buyers many of them local were met with fierce competition from enthusiastic purchasers who had travelled from Orkney , the Midlands , Yorkshire and a very strong representation from Wales .

C & D Auction Marts in conjunction with Border Livestock Exchange Ltd held their rescheduled Kelso Ram Sale for Rings 18 & 19 with 244 Texel Shearlings at Longtown Mart in a new purpose-built ring on Monday 7th September.

With buyers taking advantage of this terrific facility trade was satisfactory with an 89% sold ratio from 244 forward the overall average returned a healthy £600.45 for 219 head.

Joint top was £1350 from W N Douglas Catslackburn & W J and J G Bell, Kinning Hall.
